Sex Provides Health Benefits

Sex Provides Health Benefits

Sex provides many health benefits that go well beyond the bedroom. It turns out that sex is good for you in more ways that you have ever imagined.

Improving your health is the last thing on your mind when you are in the mood and looking forward to having hot passionate sex.  Sex however does provide many benefits, ranging from boosting your immune system to improving your physical health and many more.

Many find it surprising that sex does offer you and your body such benefits, however these have been scientifically proven and not just urban myths.  The benefits of a healthy loving relationship and frequent sex include:

Boost your Immunity

Sexual activity has been proven to improve your physical health. By having sex at least once or twice a week, your levels of an antibody called immunoglobulin A or IgA are increased, which can actually protect you from getting colds and other infections.

Stress Relief

One of the big health benefits of sex is its ability to lower blood pressure and overall stress.  Frequent sexual intercourse was also found to be associated with lower diastolic blood pressure in cohabiting participants. Research did also find a link between partner hugs and lower blood pressure in women.

Sex Helps Sex Burn Calories

On average, half an hour of sex actually burns at least 85 calories. This may not sound like many calories, however it does all add up over a long period of time.  If you have sex once a week, 52 half-hour sessions would burn 4,420 calories. Remember, sex benefits from both a physical and psychological perspective.

Sex Helps the Heart

Many old timers did worry that sex could stress your body and lead to stroke, that's not the case according to researchers from England.  The heart health benefits of sex don't just end there. Researchers also found that having sex over twice a week reduced the risk of fatal heart attack by half for the men, compared to men who had sex less than once a month.

Sex Helps Boost Self-Esteem

Research has also found that frequent sex actually helps boost self-esteem. It was suggested that one of the reasons people say they have sex is to feel good about themselves. Great sex begins with self-esteem and raises it. If the sex is loving, connected, and what you want, it does also raise it.

Sex Helps Improves Intimacy

Both sex and orgasms are shown to increase levels of the hormone oxytocin, the so-called love hormone.  This hormone which helps us build trust and bond. It has been proven that the more contact you have with your partner, even in the form of a hug, the greater the oxytocin levels. Higher oxytocin was also linked to feeling generous. Therefore if you suddenly feel more generous toward your partner than usual, give the love hormones credit.

Sex Actually Reduces the Risk of Prostate Cancer

It is believed that frequent ejaculations, especially in 20-something men, may reduce the risk of prostate cancer later in life. A study that did follow men diagnosed with prostate cancer and men without, it was found that there was no association of prostate cancer based on the number of sexual partners once men reached their 30s, 40s, and 50s. It was however found that men who had five or more ejaculations per week while in their 20s reduced their risk of getting prostate cancer later in life by a third.

Sex Helps Reduces Pain

With more contact and sex, the hormone oxytocin surges.  This causes endorphins to increase, which help pain to be reduced. Therefore if you do have a headache or back pain or muscle pains, these symptoms tend to improve after sex.

Enjoy Better Sleep

It has been identified that the body chemical released during an orgasm does also promote sleep. Getting enough sleep has been linked to a number of other good habits, such as maintaining a healthy weight and blood pressure. This probably explains why your man can be active one minute and fast asleep the next.

Sex Helps Strengthens Pelvic Muscles

It has been found that by doing a few pelvic floor muscle exercises during sexual intercourse, you will enjoy more pleasure and strengthen in that area and will help minimize the risk of incontinence later in life.
